One of the major growth areas in club level motorsport is AutoSOLOs. In the past few years, the level of interest among competitors has soared and all the signs are that the discipline is set to gain further in popularity. For anyone who has never heard the term, imagine an Autotest but with no reversing needed in any of the tests – except, perhaps, if you overdo the spirited driving bit.
The primary reasons for the growth are that AutoSOLOs offer a lot of in-car competition time, and most important in these cash-strapped times, they are very good value for money. You also get the chance to practice driving skills that can hold you in good stead in normal road driving.
Southern Car Club will be organising two of these events in 2018. The dates to mark in your diaries are 27th May 2018 and 14th October 2018. Both will be held at Kempton Park horse race course in Surrey and interest in the events is such that we have already applied to and been accepted as rounds of the ACSMC AutoSOLO Championship. Further details on how to enter will become available nearer the date. One of the main requirements of AutoSOLOs is that participants do a stint as marshals in between their competitive runs. This rule alleviates some of the problems of getting marshals but additional marshals for the day will be welcomed with open arms.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in the organisation of the Autosolos in the lead-up to the event and on the day. If you would like to get involved at any level please contact us.
Provisional Calendar - ACSMC AutoSOLO Championship 2018
The 2018 Championship includes the innovative idea where the ACSMC will pay the MSA licence fee for those who have never held one, or not had one in the last 10 years. After championship registration and competing at 2 rounds of the championship the fee will be repaid. The aim is to encourage the many drivers who at the moment just do the Clubman part of the events and to assist them to enter the full series. If you have any friends who would like to take up this opportunity then please pass on this email. All the rounds are organised by clubs in the ACSMC area and there should not be a need for too much travelling.
Key points (summarised, please refer to the published regulations):
- Championship registration is open until 30th May 2018
- Registration fee is £5
- All cars must be currently registered for road use (no trade plates) with insurance and MOT (where applicable) and driven to the event.
- Competitors must marshal on every championship event in which they compete. (thanks )
