In April 2013 the MoD opened 50 miles of military roads to create London Rally for Heroes including a spectator stage for close-up action of some of the best rallying in the UK. The inaugural event raised funds for Help for Heroes, the charity which aids rehabilitation of wounded military personnel.
Southern Car Club, in partnership with Farnborough District Motor Club, will continue this exciting and exclusive event with Aldershot Rally for Heroes – renamed as the rally will be hosted by Aldershot, the spiritual home of the British Army.
Back in 2013 we ran London Rally for Heroes, which raised £15,000 for the charity. With a move to Aldershot for both the service area and HQ the event has been renamed Aldershot Rally for Heroes, the culmination of many months of hard work by so many people, determined to seize an extremely rare chance to bring multi-venue sealed surface rallying to the home counties.
Aldershot Rally for Heroes is a unique opportunity for rallying to show its support for “our current wounded”; by raising awareness and funds for the charity, Help for Heroes.
Help for Heroes provides direct, practical support to serving and veteran heroes who have experienced life changing injuries or illness and their families; so it seemed only fitting that an event which depends on military venues for the majority of its stages should focus its fund raising efforts on such a worthwhile cause. In turn, the MOD has backed the project wholeheartedly by making available some new locations that have never previously been accessible to the rallying fraternity.
Aldershot Rally for Heroes will provide its participants with stages rallying over asphalt roads; from wide sweeping “semi-public” roads to tight and technically challenging military compounds; from fast open training grounds to narrow, winding lanes through woodland. There will be something for everyone
Aldershot Rally for Heroes is an event run by volunteer motorsport clubs in association with the MOD. With this in mind the event organisers, Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Club are proudly supporting our military heroes.
