Goodwood Festival of Speed Event 2018

Southern Car Club event press release

2018 is going to be an exciting year for Southern Car Club (SCC), as it works to put on new events aimed at developing grass roots motorsport.

On 6th April, Southern will be holding the SCC 12-Car Road Rally, the first event of its kind to be organised by SCC in over 30 years! This year runs as part of the Weld Motor Club 2017-2018 12-Car Series, supported by Utting Estates Limited. The entry and reserves list is currently full but there are plenty of volunteer spaces available for marshals. All levels of experience are invited to register interest in marshalling. It will be a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a new road Rallying event.

After the success of last years’ AutoSolo events at Kempton Park Racecourse, SCC wanted to secure the Racecourse again for 2018. AutoSolo competitions are a great introduction to motorsport and are frequently organised by grassroots clubs to encourage novice and experienced racers to get involved. “Last years’ competitors really pushed themselves and that was shown in the results” says club Chairman Anthony Concannon, “We would love for novice competitors to join us for the day and take that first step in getting involved in motorsport.” This year, the club will be at Kempton Park on 27th May and 14th October. Regulations and entry forms will be made available online closer to the dates.

Organising the Goodwood Festival of Speed Rally Stage, located at the top of Goodwood Hill, is the main event again this year. Combining gravel, dust and the unpredictable English weather, the Rally stage is a tough proving ground for even the most experienced racers. As ever, the club always needs dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to marshal and to help make sure these events can go ahead. While preference for marshalling at GFOS is given to Southern Car Club members, we encourage all car club members to register their interest. In keeping with new safety rules, all marshals must be MSA accredited.

Event details will be updated regularly and all event information regarding times, locations and requirements can be found on the club’s website www.southerncarclub.com

Southern Car Club are working on putting on new events this year to develop grassroots motorsport and to encourage more people to get involved, no matter how much experience they have.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018 Marshals

Goodwood Festival of Speed marshals’ press release

The countdown is on for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018. This year the event celebrates its Silver Jubilee and it will reflect on the moments, machines and people who have shaped and championed the last 25 years in both motorsport and the event’s history.

The Forest Rally Stage, situated at the top of the Goodwood hill is the perfect place to bring together racers from different disciplines and Southern Car Club is working hard to organise the stage at this special edition of GFOS. As ever, there is a great need for marshals eager to help put on a truly historic event. Your day would begin with signing on at 7am and with the marshalling split into teams covering a variety of shifts, there will be time to explore other parts of the Festival and the Goodwood Estate. There is also the option to stay at the marshals’ campsite.

While preference for marshalling at GFOS is given to Southern Car Club members, we encourage all car club members to register their interest. In keeping with new safety rules, all marshals must be MSA accredited.

If you would like to get involved, or find out more information, please contact our Competition Secretary, Michael Weeks at compsec@southerncarclub.com

Southern Car Club AutoSOLOs

Kempton Park AutoSOLO Regs Published & Entries Open

Southern Car Club are very excited to announce the Regulations have been published for the AutoSOLO being organised by Southern Car Club as part of the ACSMC AutoSOLO Championship 2017 on Sunday 28th May.

The event will be held at Kempton Park horse race course in Surrey. Interest in the events is such that we have already applied to and been accepted as rounds of the ACSMC AutoSOLO Championship. One of the main requirements of AutoSOLOs is that participants do a stint as marshals in between their competitive runs so remember to wrap up warm or break out the sun cream.

Entries are now being accepted. The same entry form can be used for both/either/or events by checking the appropriate boxes on the form. We prefer online entry, however a printable form is also available.

Entry costs are £45 per event or £33.75 for Southern Car Club members under 25 years old thanks to the Brian Hugh fund. More details about club members eligible for entry are in the regulations but if you are not currently a member of a motor club you will be able to join Southern Car Club on the day at signing on. A late entry fee of £5 will apply for entries after Monday 15th May 2017.

Entry fees are accepted online with PayPal (PayPal account not required), with a cheque or bank by transfer.

For any enquiries you can contact the Entries Secretary Michael Russell (itofficer@southerncarclub.com).

The event web page is here with links to all the documents.

Marshals Invitation from Rally North Wales

North Wales Rally Services Rally North Wales – Saturday 2nd April

It’s time to start planning events for 2016 and therefore I am looking to you for help on this year’s Rally North Wales. Saturday 2nd April is the date to add to your diaries.

Many of you will have been with us last year and what an event it was. With such a compact event I think you all had plenty to do. I do apologise for the weather but not everything is within our control. A request has been made for a little less water to descend but we can make no guarantees.

The route will be similar to last year but with the addition of MSA British Historic Rally Championship contenders there should be more action out on the stages.

I am sure you are all aware of the additional requirements that Rally Future has brought about, putting additional pressure on organisers to man stages to a suitable standard. This means we need as many people to come along and assist that we can. Whatever your skill level we can find a suitable roll for you. It can be arranged for any new marshal to be put with a suitably trained person for the day.

Can I recommend that everyone undertakes the MSA on line accreditation which ensures everyone has the basic skills needed? This can be done by going to https://www.msauk.org/ going to the marshals tab and logging in.

Should you want to improve your marshalling skills The British Rally Marshals Club will be running several marshals briefing days over the coming months? These can be found at: http://www.brmc.org.uk/index.php/training

To offer your services on the event drop me a note to johnjones10@btconnect.com or give me a call on 07766 723066
